Teaching Tolerance Materials Packaging
client: Southern Poverty Law Center
K–12 education materials developed by the Teaching Tolerance division of the Southern Poverty Law Center in Montgomery, Alabama.
I worked on two publications covers, a video cover/case and the outer box. The theme for these biennually-produced materials was the historical struggle for equality in the U.S. of various minority and marginalized groups. The visual challenge was that the main imagery needed to communicate the overall concept while not being associating only with one particular group. Searching through the vast image archives I was delighted to find this silhouette of a young figure carrying a flag that became the main cover image.
To achieve the look of old woodblock posters that the client envisioned, the designs were first screen-printed by hand then the chosen prints were scanned for offset printing.
