I was fortunate to spend two weeks this past summer attending workshops in the Type Program at the Cooper Union in New York. One course focused on informal script lettering with Ken Barber of House Industries.

One day’s assignment was to design a custom identity for “Summer Stage,” an annual event held in Central Park. We had to move quickly from sketches to a vectored digital in one day (and the close up shows that letters aren’t always built exactly as they appear…). Here’s my process and solution:
